Made of Honor

I recently saw Made of Honor movie on of one of the television movie channels and I thought ‘I have to review this movie’. It’s a romantic comedy played by Patrick Dempsey (Tom Bailey) and Michelle Monaghan (Hannah) and directed by Paul Weiland.

The story goes like this...Tom and Hannah are best friends for ten years and Tom is a Casanova from the start. Tom dates many girls and gets his way with his girls. Tom likes spending time with Hannah because Hannah is honest and doesn’t flirt with him unlike other girls. Hannah is a career oriented person and works in an art museum. Tom makes a lot of money in his career and becomes quite wealthy.

Twist in the story happens, when Hannah goes on a three week official tour to Scotland and this is when things start to change for Tom. He starts missing her very badly and it hits him that life without her is meaningless. So, he decides to propose on her return back from Scotland and they both decide to meet up in a restaurant. Tom carries a flower bouquet along with welcome smile but to his surprise she is not alone, she meets Scotland Duke during her visit to Scotland and gets engaged to him.

Tom tries proving her that she deserves him and not the Duke. He hatches plan against the Scotland guy but fails in every step. Eventually Hannah asks him to be her ‘maid of honor’ to which he agrees in order to be with her and prove she is at a wrong man.

Day before wedding night the Hannah parades around a pub and sells her kisses for change as it in the Scottish culture. When it was Tom’s turn to kiss the bride, he kisses her deeply and not just a peck on the cheek. Hannah moves away from him hastily and decides to ask him about his kiss. So, she goes to him room that night and finds him in bed with her drunken cousin which she misinterprets. Tom runs after Hannah and tries explaining to her that he loves her. But Hannah refuses to listen and accept him and so heartbroken Tom decides to leave the place before wedding. On the way, he realizes his mistake and goes back to fight for his love. He rides a horse in order to express his feelings and falls clumsily before her during the wedding ceremony. Hannah hurries up towards him from the altar and that time he says he loves her more than anything. Hannah apologizes to the Scotland guy and says Tom is the right guy for her. Finally,Tom and Hannah gets married happily.
This movie I really enjoyed watching it as it was romantic as well as funny to some extent. According to my opinion it was entertaining and good to watch.

What happens in Vegas

What happens in Vegas’ is a romantic comedy in which two completely different personality meet up accidently at Vegas and spend a freak-out night together. The two main characters in the movie are Jack Fuller (Aston Kutcher) and Joy McNally (Cameron Diaz) and the director of the movie is Tom Vaughan. This Movie is quite similar to the movie "The Proposal" and "My little bride".
Joy McNally is a career driven, elegant urbanite who gets dumped by her Fiancé whereas Jack Fuller is this carefree kind of a guy who gets sacked from his own dad’s furniture company. Both of them feeling low and emotionally upset heads to Vegas to have some fun and get over their miserable situation. They accidently bump into each other in a hotel and enjoys to the core the nightlife of Vegas. Joy McNally wakes up in the morning married to Jack Fuller; both regret their mistake of getting married to one another and decide to opt for a divorce. But fate diverts them as Jack hits a jackpot of 3 million dollars and Joy demands her share of money as they are married. They both approach the court but a conservative judge who values marriage, denies their divorce and forces them to get to know each other before actually opting for divorce. Joy and Jack plan more and more cunning schemes to demoralize each other before the marriage counselor. Jack tries to persuade Joy's ex-fiancé to accept her again so that he can get to enjoy all the money.

But things start to change for both of them during Joy’s job retreat as they get to know each other and both discovers that living together has actually brought out the best in them. On the final hearing day, Joy meets her ex-fiancé who tells her he wants her back and returns her engagement ring. Joy gets so upset because she knows Jack was behind this and he has set this up in order prove to the judge she is cheating on him. So she goes to the court and says she doesn’t want the money and also gives him divorce. Jack finally regrets his mistake and goes in chase of her. The most romantic part is when he finds her near a light house and proposes to her. Joy confesses that she has quit the job and has no money but Jack smilingly replies they have lot of money as they have hit the jackpot. The sweetest part is when he says he has hit jackpot referring both Joy and the money as he considers her more precious than a million dollar. As per my opinion it is a light and enjoyable movie to watch on a Friday night.

The Proposal

Today im going to review about the movie “The Proposal” which I saw recently after a year. The movie is a romantic comedy just like my previous blog movies ‘My little bride’ and ‘Tangled’. I really liked actor Ryan Reynolds (Andrew Paxton) in this movie as he had played his role well. People watching this movie will definitely hate Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) character in the beginning because she is this arrogant and selfish boss. This American comedy was released in the year 2009, starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock and is directed by Anne Fletcher.

Margaret is an annoying boss but Andrew puts up with her and works for her dedicatedly with no rest as he aims to be an editor some day. Margaret is hated by her office environment because of her harsh attitude. The twist in the movie happens when Margaret US visa expires and in order to avoid deporting to Canada, she forces her assistant-Andrew into a fake marriage. Initially Andrew is shocked but makes a deal with her to publish his manuscript and also to promote him as an editor in the near future. Left with no choice, Andrews’s arrogant boss agrees to his deal and they are off to Andrews place in Alaska to meet his family. When she lands up in Alaska, she comes to know that Andrews father owns up the half of Sitka. Margaret stubborn and arrogant facade starts to melt and she gets quite attached with Andrews’s family. Both gets to know each other in process of persuading the immigrant investigator and chemistry sparks between them during a course of time. Margaret understands that Andrew has some issues with his father in taking over his family business. Margaret finally regrets her mistake of forcing Andrew into a fake marriage and so leaves Alaska calling off the wedding. She also leaves note for Andrew stating that she is leaving because she doesn’t want to hurt Andrews’s family and also assures him that she will publish his work. Andrews is dumbstruck by her action and tries catching up with her before she is deported to Canada and eventually proposes her amidst his office colleagues.
The movie is good entertainer and definitely a “must watch” movie for people who prefer light and funny movie.

Pride and Prejudice

My previous movie reviews was on a true love romantic story “The Notebook” and the same way this movie “Pride and Prejudice” is one romantic tale .Pride and Prejudice is a classic romance and I like this movie a lot as I’m a huge fan of Jane Austin (Author of Pride and Prejudice). Movie depicts late 18th century England and its culture. The two main characters in this film are Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Bennet) and Matthew Macfadyen (Mr. Darcy) and the director of this movie is Joe Wright.
The movie goes like this…… The Bennets famliy to whom Elizabeth (Lizzy) belongs is a middle class family with five daughters. Lizzy’s mother character is a pestering type who always laments on getting any of her children married off to a wealthy person. The eldest daughter (Jane) is considered the most beautiful in the family and gains attention from a wealthy noble Mr. Bingley in a ball. Same way, lively and independent Lizzy attracts wealthy well-bred Mr. Darcy who is aloof and proud personality. The cutest part is when both the personalities clash and Mr.Darcy insults Lizzy by comparing their class differences. Lizzy develops an instant hatred towards him due his rude behavior and shifts her attention towards a handsome soldier who eventually elopes with her younger sister. Lizzy always dreams of love marriage and has an independent way of thinking from the conservative England society at that time. Mr.Darcy hides his love towards Lizzy and puts up a false face by insulting her. The beauty of the moment is when Mr.Darcy leaves his pride and proposes to her in the end. The backdrop was breathtaking and wonderful moment during his proposal. Lizzy and Mr.Darcy share an amazing spark between them but both fight with each other to ignore that.
In my opinion, this movie is definitely a movie to watch and enjoy the Victorian style romance. I don’t know how far men will like this movie as it mainly spins around woman but for me it’s on my top 10 favorite movie list. Every time I watch the movie I get so engrossed, I forget the time.

Nostalgic – “The Notebook”

Most of us love writing a diary and reading it brings about sweet memories. Same way, this movie is like reading a diary of two lovers in my point of view. We get to watch only few movies with real meaning for Love and this movie is one among them. The notebook is one classic romance with depicts depth of love. The movie was directed by Nick Cassavetes, starring Ryan Gosling (Noah) and Rachel McAdams (Allie) and this movie is based on a novel by Nicholas Park. My previous blogs were on "My little Bride"and "Tangled" which were romantic comedies unlike this gentle romatic story with no comedies.
In this story, love birds Allie and Noah meet up in a Carnival and for Noah it is “Love at first sight”. He falls irrevocably in love with Allie and chases her throughout the carnival. He tries charming her and it works. Allie is a 17 year old girl who’s on summer vacation at Noah’s town. After the first meeting, Allie is drawn to him and both share a wonderful romance. All the sweet things come to an end as Allie’s wealthy mother object poor country boy-Noah. Noah gets angry when Allie’s mother calls him ‘Trash” and so he breaks up with Allie. Later regrets his mistake and tries make up with Allie who leaves the town heartbroken. Noah writes to her every day for a year and gets no reply as Allie’s mother hides it. After seven years of waiting, Allie gets engaged to a wealthy Soldier and gets busy for her wedding. She accidently sees Noah’s Advertisement and decided to make a visit to his new house. Noah builds this house for his lost love but doesn’t have the heart to sell it. Allie and Noah shares a same spark even after seven years separation and Allie gets to know that her mother has played a wicked role in their separation. Now, she has to decide whether to go for her “first love” or a wealthy soldier. At last she decides to be with Noah and the story goes as an old man reading this story everyday to an old woman who is suffering from dementia. The real suspense is that the old man who is reading that diary is Noah and the old woman is Allie. As she is suffering from deteriorating memory, he reads to her this story everyday and relishes those ten minutes during which she get backs her memory. One fine day, Noah doesn’t come to read her stories as he gets a heart attack and forced to bed rest. During the night time, he quietly sneaks into Allie’s bed and to his surprise Allie remembers him. The most touching moment in this movie is when both peacefully die in sleep as Allie wishes, even death can part them.
It might sound as a usual love story but the way it is portrayed and they way the characters have lived up to the character will surely make you teary eyed in the end. What I really liked is, Noah’s faith that he will surely get his sweet Allie and the way he cares for her even in his old age. The movie is all sweet and romantic but I feel this kind of love is impossible in reality. The movie is one feel good movie to watch in my opinion with so much emotion and love.

Romantic Comedy “My Little Bride”

My previous blog was about a animation movie "Tangled" and both the movies "Tangled" and "My little bride" share a similarity as they both are romantic comedies. This Korean movie is a lively movie because of the two main characters in the movie - Boeun (Moon Geun Young) and Sangmin (Kim Rae Won). My little bride was released in the year 2004 in Korea and was a hit. This movie was directed by Kim Ho Jun and it was remake of a Chinese movie which was released in the year 2002.
Romance in this movie is different from usual love story movies or love at first sight movies. Boeun and Sangmin discovers love after marriage and it is portrayed very sweetly. The story is about a 16 year old girl getting married to a 24 year old guy who just out from military. Both these characters are childhood friends and were fond of each other as children. The story brings a twist when Boeun’s grandfather fells sick and forces both Boeun and Sangmin to get married as he had made a promise to Sangmin late grandfather. Both the family is shocked along with Boeun and Sangmin but agrees half heartedly has the grandfather is in the deathbed. Boen still an adolescent with no knowledge about marriage takes up marriage very lightly. In the meantime, she develops a crush with a baseball star player who is considered a cutest guy in her school. Also, Sangmin joins her school as a teacher and is love tortured by a female teacher who is a spinster. Both Boeun and Sangmin live in the same apartment but hiding the fact their married. After all the struggle, fight and confusion between the couple, they both notice the love for each other. Love was in the air but both ignored it and finally discover it in the end.
Overall the movie is funny and romantic as both Boeun and Sangmin lives up to the character in the movie. It is one feel good movie to watch as it is funny, cute, romantic and lovely. Not just that it is quite different from normal love stories, so worth watching it.

The all new Rapunzel - Tangled

Walt Disney’s ‘Tangled’ is an animation movie which gives the viewers a visual treat. This movie Tangled is basically a fairy tale called Rapunzel. The Movie was directed by Nathan Greno and Bryan Howard, starring Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), Zachary Levi (Thief) and Donna Murphy (Step mother). This movie is the 50th animated film for Walt Disney Company.
Long long ago in a far away Kingdom, there was this wicked witch who owned a mysterious plant and the plant had magic in it. The magical plant made this old witch look young and beautiful. This magical plant is discovered by the King’s men, in order to cure the pregnant Queen and she gets healed due the magical plant. The Queen gives birth to a beautiful golden haired baby girl. One day the wicked old witch steals the baby for her own goodness and locks her up in tower with no human contact. Rapunzel grows up into a beautiful teenager with 70 feet length golden hair, always dreaming of the world outside. Every year, her grieving parents used to lit the lanterns in the sky on her birthday, which Rapunzel would watch with wonder, without realizing it was meant for her. Finally she plans an escape from the tower with a help of a handsome thief and making a deal to return his stolen jewel for a day in the real world. The thief agrees to this deal half heartedly as his stolen jewel is at stake. Thus the wonderful journey begins for Rapunzel and the thief, with lot of adventure such as being chased by the guards, a super-cop horse and some of Flynn's(thief) former accomplices. Rapunzel thoroughly enjoys her new life until an unexpected twist happens.
The entire movie is magical and there is a slight alteration in the storyline. A handsome thief (Flynn) plays the main role instead of a prince as in original Rapunzel fairy tale. The movie has fantastic visual effects and each character in the movie has its own magic and charm. According to my opinion, this movie is completely adorable and movie to watch for those who prefer happily ever after fairy tales.
